Airtel announced its price hike on prepaid plans earlier this week with prices for various plans doing up by 20-25 percent. Vodafone-Idea (VI) followed quickly and also announced a price hike for most of its plans with a similar range as Airtel. So far Jio is the only one that has not announced a price hike for its prepaid plans. The New prepaid plans of Airtel, JIO, and Vi will be effective from November 26, 2021, so Recharge NOW OR PAY MORE.
The new rates will affect voice plans, unlimited voice and data plan bundles and data top-up recharges. Based on the plan itself, the new hiked price will represent an increase of around 20 percent to 25 percent.
The entry-level voice plan by Airtel now sees a 25 percent hike, while most unlimited voice bundles (the plans with unlimited calling and a daily-data limit for speed) will see hikes of about 20 percent.

Why Airtel increased their Prepaid Plans
We believe that this level of ARPU will enable the substantial investments required in networks and spectrum. Even more important, this will give Airtel the elbow room to roll out 5G in India. Therefore, as a first step, we are taking the lead in rebalancing our tariffs during the month of November. Accordingly, our new tariffs as indicated below will come into effect from November 26, 2021,” the company added.
The move could signal a wave of increased tariffs as companies look at ways to gain profit ahead of the upcoming 5G wave. Rival telecom operator Vodafone has also increased its prices for various plans. We could also possibly see the country’s third major telecom player Reliance Jio increase its prices soon.
