Lucifer Season 5 is another popular Netflix Series Based on characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg, this series follows Lucifer, the original fallen angel, who has become dissatisfied with his life in hell. After abandoning his throne and retiring to Los Angeles, Lucifer indulges in his favorite things (women, wine, and song) — until a murder takes place outside of his upscale nightclub.
When Lucifer was canceled after a four-season run, there were a lot of unanswered questions, given that Chloe (Lauren German) had finally seen her crime-solving partner’s real devil face. So, when Netflix decided to pick up the fan-favorite show, it gave it not one, but two seasons to tie up loose ends.
Season 5, the first of it, was split into two halves to be telecast a few months apart. The break, eventually, went on for more than a year, given the pandemic. Finally, what we do get is 16 episodes of Samael (Lucifer) vs Michael (Lucifer’s nefarious twin brother) in a battle of supremacy. Even God makes an appearance on earth and Los Angeles, it would seem, is the hotbed for a lot of divinity, what with all the angels flitting in and out.
Let’s not forget, though, that even when Lucifer battles his personal demons, the show is still about him and Detective Decker solving murder mysteries. So, yes, every episode is about some half-baked case as well, but the focus, this season, is strictly on the principal cast – Lucifer’s struggle with his emotions, Amenadiel’s transition to being a father, Ella’s love for bad boys, and Dan coming to terms with who Lucifer truly is, among much more.
And truth be told, the second part of the season redeems whatever shortcomings the first had. Lucifer has never really been about path-breaking performances, but with a lot more emotions at play this time around, there are moments that could potentially leave you a tad teary-eyed. And yes, they should make Tom Ellis sing more often.
